Short Films

Educated Fool

2021

As a final project for the 3rd-year Video Production course, FILM 392, I wrote, directed and edited this film with the help of my teammates: Autumn Essex-McIntyre and Norah Zhang. This short film was shot over three consecutive nights at Queen's University's Stauffer Library.

Synopsis:

Young and naïve, Noah attempts to join the mafia as he steps into a seemingly average library to deliver the book that will seal his fate. The Collector impatiently waits for him between the rows of books, ready to judge his gift and decide whether or not he can join their ranks. Noah’s nerves increase as he awaits his judgment, making him question every little thing the Collector does as she assesses him. Finally, closing the large book with a loud thud, the Collector announces her verdict, prompting Noah to run for his life.

One Step

2021

The final project for the 2nd-year production course FILM 250, Fundamentals of Production, One Step, was made amidst the beginning of remote learning. Working on my own with basic equipment posed a challenge, but the experience was enlightening and lots of fun.

Synopsis:

The main character, Emma stumbles upon a magical stone capable of changing the outdoor climate. From the confines of Emma’s room, the shadow of an invisible creature begins to grow as it drains the stone’s powers. Unaware of the creature’s presence, Emma plays with the stone, testing its ability, and is abruptly interrupted as her surroundings react strangely to the stone. As she investigates the strange occurrence, Emma falls prey to the Shadow Creature engulfing her in absolute darkness.

Abstraction

2021

In the context of the Cinematography and Aesthetics course, I created a scene using theories taught during the semester. Due to its remote learning nature, I worked on my own as camera operator and actor. This posed many technical challenges, but I managed to problem-solve my way through it.

Synopsis:

Experimental film depicting the moment when realities begin to clash for a troubled mind.

Penance

2020

As part of the 2020 Focus Film Festival, Penance was written, filmed and edited in 72 hours. I was grouped with individuals of various majors and years; this led to an exciting weekend of teamwork.

Synopsis:

Looking back at the good and bad of her relationship with David, Jane looks to alcohol to drown her sorrows. But, unfortunately, the shadows of her past continue to haunt her as she attempts to find peace. After discussing with a fellow day drunk, Jane follows their advice to fix things with David by confessing her sins.

Note

2018

Note was my first solo project during my year at CEGEP Limoilou. I did this project to hone my skills and practice the techniques I had learned over the academic year.

Synopsis:

Jane and John go through their daily lives as they struggle with depression. Superimposed, viewers witness how their behaviours differ and increase uncontrollably.
